Anthony R. Kovner, Ph.D.

Anthony Kovner is professor of Health Care Management at NYU/Wagner. His research interests include evidence-based management, non-profit governance, clinician leadership, and hospital service lines in geriatrics. He has been a senior manager in two hospitals, a nursing home, a group practice, and a neighborhood health center, and has been a senior consultant for a large industrial union. Professor Kovner has written 11 books and 91 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and case studies. His newest text is Evidence-Based Management in Health Care, with Richard D’Aquila and David Fine (2009). Other books include: Health Care Management: Cases, Readings and Commentary, with Ann McAlearney and Duncan Neuhauser, 9th edition (2009) and Health Care Delivery in the United States, (2008) coeditor with James Knickman. He has consulted with the New York-Presbyterian health system (nurse leadership), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (swing beds), the WK Kellogg Foundation (clinician management education), Montefiore Medical Center (clinician management education) and the American Academy of Orthopaedics (governance). He served as a board member of Lutheran Medical Center for 26 years. He directs the NYU/Wagner Executive MPA for Nurse Leaders. Professor Kovner received his Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
