Christopher Kerns is a practice manager at the Advisory Board Company, a for-profit research firm serving a membership of more than 2,500 of America’s leading hospitals and health systems. He currently leads many of the research efforts of the firm’s flagship membership, the Health Care Advisory Board, with a special focus on hospital and health system financial management. Mr. Kerns has authored numerous studies of best practices designed to preserve operating margins, develop optimal capital strategies, and improve revenue cycle and supply chain operations.
Mr. Kerns is a health care financial analyst by training. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, he was the editor of The Healthcare Investment Letter—an investment newsletter covering publicly traded health care companies and targeted at individual investors—and has written extensively for the late Louis Rukeyser’s investment advisories, with a specialization in health care firms. Mr. Kerns also has conducted biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health in the field of neuroscience.
Mr. Kerns received his M.B.A. from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
