With age, several health conditions commonly crop up at once, requiring a variety of specialists from different disciplines. Our team works closely with your primary care physician to coordinate your care and make sure you are receiving the services you need.

The Breakfast Club is a social gathering for seniors, hosted in the Cafeteria on the G level of Phelps Hospital. You’ll meet once a month (except in August and December) on Thursday mornings from 8:30 am to 10:30 am for a health-related presentation, a nutritious breakfast and some light exercise. Please call to reserve your spot.
Stepping On is a seven-week fall-prevention program that will teach you how to reduce your risk of falling. The program is participatory and confidence building, and works to help you maintain an active and fulfilling life. In Stepping On you’ll learn about:
- avoiding falls and other risks
- the link between impaired vision and falls
- coping after a fall
- safe footwear for walking
- strength and balance exercises
- home and community safety
- managing your medication
- keeping your bones healthy
The program meets for two hours per week in the James House at Phelps Hospital, from 1:00 pm – 3 pm. Please call to inquire about when the next session begins.
Mind Games is a fun way to challenge your mind through cognitive exercises involving memory, problem solving, focus and reasoning speed. You’ll play board and computer games that encourage you to think quickly and efficiently. If your memory is slipping or you’ve been feeling easily confused, come join the fun!
Senior Steps provides free health screenings for seniors every third Tuesday of the month from 10:00–11:30 am. The program includes cognitive, hearing and balance screenings, which are held in various locations around the hospital. Please call to schedule an appointment.
Tai Chi is a graceful form of exercise that helps reduce stress and improves overall health. Its slow, gentle and flowing movements, deep focus, and breathing promote serenity. Classes are held at The Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns from 9:30 am – 10:30 am or 10:45 – 11:45 am. The cost is $80 for eight sessions.

Spirituality is a sense of connection we feel to something larger than ourselves. It may involve a search for meaning in life, an experience that touches everyone at some time or another. Phelps offers programs about spirituality throughout the year. Meetings are held at 9 am in the boardroom. Please call to register.
The Elder Law series provides valuable information and guidance as you plan for your retirement. The three-part series features presentations by elder law attorneys and financial advisors, and covers topics such as health insurance, social security benefits, and tax law for estate planning. Lectures are usually held in the auditorium. Please call to register.
Demystifying Medicare assists people who are trying to navigate the Medicare system. The program outlines the different parts of Medicare, and explains the costs associated with the various types of medical and drug insurance that government and private companies provide. It is held in our Auditorium; please call to register.
Alzheimer’s disease is life changing for those with the diagnosis and those close to them. The Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group provides a safe place where caregivers, family and friends of people with dementia and other degenerative brain conditions can meet to share experiences, comfort and support.
