Phelps Hospital has received accreditation from the major and most highly respected healthcare organizations in the U.S. and New York State, including the Joint Commission, the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Department of Mental Health, for its superior standards in patient treatment and care.

Joint Commission
The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States, recognized Phelps as a 2014 Top Performer in Key Quality Measures for maintaining stringent performance standards in treating heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia, and providing surgical care, hospital-based psychiatric care and immunizations.

 

Highest Level NICHE Status for Care of Older Adults
Phelps is one of only three hospitals in Westchester and one of 10 in New York State to achieve the highest commendation––Exemplar status––from Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) for its ongoing commitment to excellence in geriatric care, and the implementation and quality of it system-wide interventions and initiatives.

 

Baby-Friendly Hospital
Phelps is only the second hospital in the Hudson Valley and the 16th in New York State designated as a “Baby-Friendly® Hospital” for its optimal level of care and support for mothers and their newborns. This prestigious designation reflects Phelps’ participation in the global Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), which the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) created in 1991.

Excellence in Cancer Care
The American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC) awarded Phelps accreditation with commendation as a Community Hospital Cancer Program for improving the quality of cancer care by launching programs on prevention and screening, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, life-long follow up for recurrent disease, and end-of-life care. Phelps’ designation as a CoC facility entitles patients to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient-centered services including psycho-social support, patient navigation, and a plan that documents each patient’s care and seeks to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life.


Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence
Phelps, a Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence, belongs to a network of more than 250 screening centers across the U.S. that the Lung Cancer Alliance has recognized for their commitment to best practices in lung cancer screening.

 

Diagnostic and Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence
As a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence and a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the Phelps Radiology Department has joined 16 U.S. hospitals in earning the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) highest honor. The ACR recognizes these centers for their exemplary staff, technology, and policies and procedures, and for meeting the highest national standards in providing bone densitometry, ultrasound, MRI, CT scan, nuclear medicine, angiography, diagnostic radiology, mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast imaging and ultrasound, ultrasound-guided breast biopsy and breast MRI.

Gold Plus Award for Stroke Care
Phelps Hospital, an official New York State Department of Health-designated Stroke Center, annually wins the Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award, the American Heart/American Stroke Associations’ highest honor for quality stroke care. Phelps earns this award for achieving the highest standards for diagnosis and treatment with the most up-to-date, evidence-based methods, medications and risk-reduction therapies, all to speed recovery, and reduce death and disability.

Cardiovascular Diagnostic Lab
The Phelps Cardiovascular Diagnostic Lab has received accreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for meeting the highest national standards for all of its echocardiography (use of ultrasound to test the heart) and vascular (blood vessel) testing services. These include extracranial cerebrovascular testing, peripheral arterial testing, peripheral venous testing, adult transthoracic testing, adult transesophageal testing and adult stress testing. In some states, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and private insurers require vascular testing accreditation for reimbursement.


Cardiac Rehabilitation
Phelps’ Cardiac Rehabilitation program has American Association of Cardio Vascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) certification, the only peer-review accreditation for facilities that practice the highest standards of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitative medicine.

 

A Fit-Friendly Worksite
The American Heart Association has named Phelps Hospital a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Worksite for helping employees eat better and move more. Our employee wellness programs include free annual health screenings, on-site physical activities, walking competitions, free monthly smoking cessation classes, a gym reimbursement program and a series of educational programs on a variety of topics such as healthy eating and stress management.


Excellence in Gastroenterology
The Phelps Medical Associates gastroenterology practice has accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), having met all nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality gastroenterological care.

 

Hyperbaric Medicine
The Hyperbaric Medicine Department at Phelps has achieved Level II “Accreditation with Distinction” from the international Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) because our clinical hyperbaric facility has exceeded the UHMS’s standards for staffing and training, equipment installation, operation and maintenance, patient care and safety.

 

Behavioral Health Programs
Phelps offers a full range of outpatient counseling, inpatient psychiatric services, and in- and outpatient substance abuse programs. All of our behavioral health programs are licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health. All of our chemical dependency services are certified by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS).

 


Sleep Center
Dedicated to the advancement of sleep medicine, Phelps’ Sleep Center has full accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for meeting or exceeding the standards of quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.

 

Diabetes Education Center Recognition
The Phelps Diabetes Education Center, for the eighth straight year, has received national recognition from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for its high-quality diabetes self-management program. The ADA honor spotlights our knowledgeable and caring Diabetes Education Center staff, who provides patients with the comprehensive information they need to manage their diabetes and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions, and some of the acute and chronic complications of the disease.

Kendal on Hudson

The Kendal Corporation has numerous communities designed for elderly living, located around the Eastern U.S. Kendal on Hudson is located on the Phelps Campus, and was the Kendal Corporation’s first retirement community built on hospital property. Kendal on Hudson allows us to provide for the continuing care of elderly patients at our facility.
