Phelps Joins NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System

January 11, 2006

The NewYork–Presbyterian Healthcare System Board approved Phelps Memorial Hospital Center to become an affiliated member, and in November, the affiliation agreement was formally executed.

“We are pleased that Phelps has joined the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, and we look forward to working collaboratively to strengthen and expand the health care delivery system in Westchester County,” said Herbert Pardes, M.D., President and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System.

Also commenting on the new affiliation, Arthur A. Klein, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NewYork–Presbyterian Healthcare System said, “We believe the affiliation will promote significant programmatic linkages between Phelps and New York-Presbyterian that will have a positive impact on health care services for the residents of Westchester County.”

“This partnership enables us to link with some of the finest hospitals and medical schools in the country,” notes Keith. Safian, President & CEO of Phelps Memorial, “and will allow us to participate in innovative quality and patient safety programs for which the NYP Healthcare System is achieving a national reputation.”

“We anticipate important benefits from this new alliance,” adds C. Edward Midgley, Chairman of Phelps Board of Directors, “including access to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s specialty services and clinical advances, as well as the program development expertise within the NYP Healthcare System, which will help us establish new services and enhance established ones.”

With this affiliation, Phelps joins the other three Stellaris Health Network hospitals (Lawrence Hospital Center, Northern Westchester Hospital, and White Plains Hospital Center) as members of the NYP Healthcare System.
