Lawrence L. Faltz, MD to be Honored by American College of Physicians and Elected a Fellow of The New York Academy of Medicine

The New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) will present its Laureate Award to Lawrence L. Faltz, MD, FACP, Senior Vice President Medical Affairs and Medical Director, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, on Friday, November 12. The presentation will take place at a luncheon during the organization’s Annual Upstate Scientific meeting at the Prime Hotel & Conference Center in Saratoga Springs.
The Laureate Award honors ACP members who have demonstrated, by their example and conduct, an abiding commitment of excellence in medial care, education, or research, and in service to their community, their Region, and the ACP.
“We congratulate Dr. Faltz on being presented with the Laureate award,” said Keith F. Safian, Phelps’ President and CEO. “Larry is an outstanding hospital executive, physician and scientist and deserves the accolades afforded him.”
In 2003 Dr. Faltz was appointed to the ACP’s Publications Committee. The Publications Committee establishes policies that support the College’s publishing activities and is responsible for the Annals of Internal Medicine (electronic and print editions) and ACP Observer, among other journals, web sites and books. He is Governor of Hudson Valley Region and has been a member of ACP’s Board of Governors since 1998. In 2002 Dr. Faltz was President of ACP’s New York State Chapter.
With 10,000 members, the ACP is the largest specialty organization in the country, second only to the American Medical Association. ACP’s New York Chapter is the largest in the nation.
Dr. Faltz’s election to The New York Academy took place during the September board meeting. The Academy was founded in 1847 and is dedicated to enhancing the health of the public through research, education, policy analysis and advocacy, with a particular focus on disadvantaged urban populations. The Academy spearheads initiatives, or areas of research, in which scientists pursue studies and projects concerned with epidemiology, health policy, child health, biomedicine, ethics, handgun injury, infectious diseases and more. Follows are elected for a lifetime.
He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York City, his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed his internship and junior residency at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC. Prior to completing his senior residency and fellowship at New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Faltz was researcher (biochemistry and clinical pathology) with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, Dr. Faltz has been on the faculties of New York University School of Medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Cornell University Medical College and is currently Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. New York Magazine has listed him as one of New York’s “Best Doctors.” He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Copland House; an organization dedicated to contemporary American classical music. He is also a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
