Michael McCormick, MD Establishes Family Medicine Practice with Phelps

Family physician Michael McCormick, MD, of Ossining established a family medicine practice in Ossining managed by Phelps Memorial Hospital. He shares an office at 100 S. Highland Avenue with Dr. Rafael Soltren, an internal medicine physician who merged his practice with Phelps in 2009 after being a solo practitioner for 17 years.

"In deciding how to go about re-establishing my practice, I felt that entering into an agreement with Phelps would, among other benefits, allow me to give more meaningful attention and time to my patients and their health concerns," says Dr. McCormick, who has been on staff at Phelps since 1992. He was most recently employed by Family Medicine of Tarrytown and Ossining.

For many reasons, including, complexity of office administration, reduced reimbursements, escalating insurance costs and mounting office expenses, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain an independent medical practice, so some established practices, both small and large, are integrating with hospitals.

Dr. McCormick is board certified in family medicine. He earned his medical degree at St. George's University School of Medicine and completed internships and a residency in family medicine at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in New Jersey.
