Ambulatory Surgery Unit
You will see nursing at its finest in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit at Phelps. The talented team of experienced nurses enjoys a variety of "gourmet" nursing experiences. Most of our services are geared to "take-out," so our nurses are connoisseurs at educating patients and families on performing care at home after their ambulatory procedure. The "menu" includes pre-surgical assessment, minor operative procedures, eye laser clinic, pain management procedures, medical ambulatory procedures, and pre- and post-operative patient care. The choice of shifts includes the "early bird special" or the twilight hours.

Behavioral Rehabilitation Unit (Inpatient) and Outpatient Substance Abuse Services
Phelps provides a 21-day inpatient dual diagnosis (mentally ill chemically addicted) program in a non-acute unit. We offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary team approach to provide an individualized treatment plan for each patient, and we educate patients on their mental illness and their addiction. Our team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, substance abuse counselors, and mental health workers utilize their clinical skills to help facilitate the patients' success in the program. We often hear our patients say, "I've never been treated so kindly." If you are interested in this patient population and enjoy working as an integral part of a team, give us a call.

Critical Care Unit
Phelps RNs specializing in Critical Care invite you to join our team. Our state-of-the-art 12-bed Critical Care Unit features spacious patient rooms where the latest cardiac monitoring, specialty beds, detailed head walls, individual bathroom cubicles, and breakaway doors improve quality of care and enhance workload needs. Our 24-hour family visitation accommodates the needs of patients and families. Shifts are 11.5 hours: 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 7:30 a.m., and per-diem positions are also available. Infusion Unit

Maternity
Maternal Child Nurses at Phelps simply love being nurses! We enjoy becoming acquainted with our patients early on as we teach Lamaze, breastfeeding, infant CPR, and baby care, and as we provide weekly support at our Prenatal Clinic. By the time baby is born, the whole family is familiar with the hospital and staff. Our Maternal Child Health nurses work as a team to ensure quality care for families that continues throughout the labor, delivery, and postpartum period. Even after discharge, patients can call our 24-hour ABC hotline if they have questions or concerns about their newborn, and breastfeeding moms are offered a free follow-up visit with our lactation consultants. We all appreciate a friendly atmosphere, ample staffing, and many opportunities for continuing education and advancement.

Medical/Surgical

Telemetry Unit: Our 22-bed telemetry unit includes monitoring for twelve patients. Care is provided for a wide variety of diagnoses, including cardiac, pulmonary, and some post-operative patients. The nurses utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to care delivery. Plans of care are developed and reassessed by a team consisting of Physicians, Registered Nurses, Medical/Surgical Technicians, Health Unit Clerks, Dieticians, Social Workers, and Case Managers. On-going educational development of staff is achieved by a unit-based Clinical Nurse Specialist, an annual competency development program, and formal educational offerings through the Stellaris Health Network and the Critical Care Consortium.

Surgical service assistants are there for support in each suite, each shift. Our surgeons have NYC expertise with a focus on community need. Phelps is a Center of Excellence for Ortho, Spine, and General Surgery. We have a 70% RN staff with a philosophy that the patient is "first" in all decisions. Patient safety is our priority.
Come join our Surgical RN Team - we're on the cutting edge of excellent care. We precept, teach, and provide resources for all our team members. Our patient-to-staff ratio is very reasonable, and we have ample support to assist our professional team. With only 13 shifts (12.5 hrs.) per month for FT RNs, we have ample time to keep ourselves sharp!!

Pediatrics
As Peds nurses at Phelps we invite you to join out family-centered team. Our unit is only 6 inpatient beds allowing us to provide comprehensive care to both our children and parents. Pediatric endocrinology is our primary specialty. We care for children and adolescents with suspected growth deficiency as well as newly diagnosed diabetics. With our help they self-medicate and learn coping skills to maintain functional school and social lives. We also process all outpatient peds surgical patients and have the satisfaction of quick treatment and return home for most of our patients. Our shifts are 7a.m. - 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. -7 p.m. You can work per diem, 2 days or three days a week. We are all flexible in covering each others' needs. Come visit us!
