Cardiovascular Risk Assessment
Assessing Your Risk
The CardioVascular Risk Assessment Center at Phelps Memorial Hospital offers comprehensive cardiovascular testing to establish risk for developing heart and associated cardiovascular disease.
Testing is appropriate for men between the ages of 40-75 and women between 45-75 – anyone who is interested in preventive care and has not had a past cardiac incident.
The tests will determine your cardiovascular risk before you experience symptoms and will serve as a guide for making any necessary therapeutic lifestyle changes.
Back to TopTaking the Test
Complete Lipid Profile:
Your blood will be tested for cholesterol (HDL/LDL); triglycerides; C-reactive protein (an indicator of inflammation); homocysteine level (marker for coronary disease risk).
Carotid Doppler Study:
An ultrasound of the neck and carotid arteries will be performed to determine if you have any thickening of the innermost layers of the arteries delivering blood to your brain.
Stress Echocardiogram:
You will undergo a treadmill stress test that includes a complete echocardiogram prior to a period of exercise and a second echo-cardiogram to assess cardiac function after exercise. This test will also determine your cardiac fitness level.
Calcium Scoring Test:
This state-of-the-art CAT scan test will determine if there is any calcification of your heart arteries, an indication of your level of risk for heart disease.
Back to TopReport
Following the tests, you will visit with a cardiologist, who will review the results of the tests with you, explain their significance, and answer any questions you may have. A final written report will be mailed to you as well as your primary care physician.
While you enjoy a healthy lunch, a registered dietitian will ask you about the types of foods you generally eat and will make recommendations for improving your diet.
The “package rate” for tests, consultations, and final report is $1,675. This represents significant savings over the individual cost of each test and consultation. For more information, call (914) 366-3752.
