Emergency Services
In
response to the needs of an increasing number of patients, Phelps constructed
a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department, which opened in December 2008.
The Phelps Emergency Department features:
- A 22,000 square foot facility (3 times larger than the old ED).
- 32 Private rooms for patients.
- Dedicated specialty examination rooms.
- Large centralized nursing stations.
- Safe and convenient access for walk-in patients with ample parking.
- Dedicated 24-hour radiology suite within the Emergency Department.
- Expanded decontamination facilities within the Department to handle radiological, biological or chemical emergencies.
- Comfortable, spacious areas for patients and families.
- Patients are brought directly to their private room without any wait in a waiting room

Medical Services Building
Phelps constructed a second professional office building on its campus, which opening in the fall of 2007. The new 100,000-square-foot Medical Services Building, 5 stories high, houses the Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation department, which is significantly expanded and includes a 20' x 40' aqua therapy pool. The new building also houses the Hoch Center for Emergency Education, which has provided more than 30,000 paramedic and first aid training sessions to first responders and others since the program began in 1984. The Hoch Center has spacious teaching space, including two classrooms and six skills labs, plus "live" mannequins for hands-on learning. Also in the Medical Services Building (755 North Broadway) are: Advanced Endoscopy & Gastroenterology (Dr. Stephen K. Heier), Briarcliff Pediatric Associates, Phelps Blood Donor Services, Phelps Counseling Services, the Diabetes & Endocrine Center for Children and Young Adults, Phelps Infusion Center, Phelps Senior Health & Internal Medicine, Sleepy Hollow Medical Group (obstetrics & gynecology), the Thoracic Center (Dr. Avraham Merav), the Vascular Institute (Dr. Igor Laskowski and Dr. Frank Carroll), the Wound Healing Institute, Pediatric Neurology, and several other physician offices.
The expansion of the Hospital's South Wing and construction of a 750-space parking garage were also part of the Master Plan. All parking on the Phelps campus is free.
