About Phelps
NYMC Phelps Family Medicine Residency Program
The NYMC Phelps Family Medicine Residency Program, accredited in 2011, is the first such program to be established in New York State since 1995. It is a collaboration between three major health institutions in suburban Westchester County: New York Medical College, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center and Open Door Family Medical Centers. The program is expected to help meet the growing need for primary care physicians in the U.S.
New York Medical College is the sponsoring academic institution for the program, which is based at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center. More than 100 Phelps physicians have volunteered to teach the residents during their three years of training. Residents see outpatients at Open Door Family Medical Centers, a community health center organization that is known for providing care under the patient-centered medical home model. The first six residents began their training in July 2012. By 2014, there will be 18 residents in the program.
