Phelps Completes First Year of Residency Programs
(July 11, 2013) One year ago, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center became a teaching hospital as the first family medicine and dental residents arrived on campus. Last week, the hospital extended a warm and enthusiastic welcome to the two new classes of residents who will begin their post-graduate training through the NYMC Phelps Family Medicine Residency and the Dental Residency, both New York Medical College-sponsored programs. In the coming year, there will be 12 family medicine and 4 dental residents participating in the programs.
At a reception welcoming the six new family medicine and four new dental residents, family medicine program director Dr. Shantie Harkisoon said, “What an achievement! Creating these residencies has truly been a great team effort, and the entire Phelps community can be very proud of what we have all accomplished.”
The family medicine residents receive their clinical training at Phelps and at Open Door Family Medical Center in Sleepy Hollow, while the dental residents do most of their training at Open Door in Port Chester. More than 125 Phelps physicians have volunteered to serve as faculty for the two programs.
Phelps President and CEO Keith F. Safian warmly welcomed the residents. “We have taken a huge step forward making Phelps into a teaching hospital,” said Safian. “There is enormous and strong support for our residency programs, and we want you to know that everyone is rooting for you!”
Dr. Lawrence L. Faltz, Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs, who was instrumental in creating the residency programs, greeted the new classes of residents: “We want to assist you, critique you and encourage you to become the best doctors you can be as you become part of the Phelps family.”
The incoming family medicine residents are: Thomas Chattathil, MD; Stephania Hasan, MD; Molly Kilpatrick, MD; Julia Krim, DO; Carmen Tamayo, MD; and Jessica Zaks, MD.
The incoming dental residents are: Benjamin Geisler, DMD; Christiane Getaz, DDS; Jeannine Holz, DDS; and Roselin Reiss, DMD.
